The cause of death of a 22-year-old woman from St. John's who died at a federal prison in Truro, N.S., has been revealed in her obituary.

Camille Strickland-Murphy was serving a three-year sentence for armed robbery, and was found unresponsive in her cell at the Nova Institution for Women on Tuesday night.

The obituary, published in The Chronicle Herald on Saturday, says Strickland-Murphy took her own life.

Her obituary refers to a "disordered mind that caused her much suffering and also adversely impacted others," and yet "she highly valued and built strong and enduring friendships."

Her family and good friends continued to offer support even after she was imprisoned, and are "left with memories, both happy and heartbreaking."
