Beverly Villeneuve, the Yellowknife woman charged in the death of 67-year-old Archie Paulette of Ndilo, had been ordered to stay away from Paulette prior to his death Monday.

Police have charged Villeneuve, 46, with second degree murder. It's not the first time Villeneuve is accused of committing a crime against Paulette.

Last December, following an incident in Ndilo, she was charged with assaulting him with a knife as well as carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

She was released on bail under several conditions, which included not approaching Paulette's home in Ndilo and not coming into contact with him.

On June 5 — three days before the murder — the court ordered Villeneuve to stay away from Ndilo.

On Monday, police were called to Paulette's home just after 11 p.m., where paramedics were treating a critically-injured Paulette. He was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A trial date for Villeneuve's December assault charge is expected to be set on Tuesday — the same day of Paulette's funeral.

Villeneuve is next expected to appear in court on the murder charge via video from Fort Smith on July 7.
