Peter Tumilty appointed interim head of Qulliq Energy Corp.
Alain Barriault, ex-president of Nunavut Housing Corp., leaves Nunavut government
The Nunavut government has announced that Peter Tumilty, current assistant deputy minister of Finance, will serve as the short-term president of Qulliq Energy Corp. while a competition gets underway to find a replacement.
Tumilty replaces Alain Barriault, who was appointed to the post last September, but as of Monday, is no longer with the Nunavut government.
Premier Peter Taptuna announced his departure in a news release without giving an explanation.
"I thank Mr. Barriault for his service to the government in his previous positions," Taptuna said in the news release.
Barriault joined QEC following more than a year of turmoil, in which former president, Peter Mackey was fired, and the chair and five board members resigned.
Audit reports from the Qulliq Energy Corp. are currently the subject of an RCMP investigation for potential criminal wrongdoing. The investigation came at the request of the Nunavut government in September 2014.
More shuffling
Taptuna announced one other staffing change Monday.
Virginia Lloyd, previously the executive director of strategic planning with the Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, is now an associate deputy minister in that department.
