David Omilgoitok, chair of Qulliq Energy Corp., resigns

The chair of Nunavut's Qulliq Energy Corp. has resigned, leaving vice-chair Julie-Anne Miller in the position for now.

Appointed one year ago, Omilgoitok gave notice Friday

David Omilgoitok, the chair of the board for Nunavut's Qulliq Energy Corp., has resigned effective Friday, Feb. 13.

In a news release, the minister responsible for QEC, Keith Peterson, said he received the news on Friday.

"David informed the government and the board that he wishes to spend more time pursuing private business interests,” Peterson said.

Omilgoitok was appointed chair in January of last year, following the resignation of five out of six board members, including Simon Merkosak.

In a letter that was made public, Merkosak said the board members quit out of frustration and concern over lack of consultation with the board by the Nunavut Government.

Julie-Anne Miller, the board's vice-chair, will take over the position on an interim basis.
