N.W.T. election set for late November
Territorial government officially moves date to avoid overlap with federal election
This year's territorial election will take place in late November, to avoid overlap with the federal election in October, the N.W.T. government has confirmed.
An act passed in the N.W.T. legislative assembly last fall said that if, as of April 1, 2015, the federal and territorial elections were still set to bump against each other, then the date of the territorial election would be moved from October 5, 2015 to November 23, 2015.
With the federal election currently slated for Oct. 19, the date of the territorial election is now officially moved.
At least one MLA in the N.W.T. has announced he won't seek the Liberal nomination for the N.W.T.'s seat in the federal Parliament, despite a previous plan to do so.
Robert Hawkins, who represents the riding of Yellowknife Centre, announced on Thursday that he has withdrawn his nomination and will instead seek a fourth term as MLA.
