The N.W.T. government and the Lifesaving Society will be providing lifejackets for free at Yellowknife's Long Lake beach.
The pilot project begins early next month.
A lifejacket loaner station with about 30 children's lifejackets will be set up on the beach.
Educational materials, additional signage and comment boxes will be added in September.
The Lifesaving society is completing a safety audit at the beach. The audit comes after a 7-year-old boy drowned at the beach last month.
