King charged with 2nd-degree murder in death of John Wifladt and attempted murder of Colin Digness
A preliminary inquiry is underway in Yellowknife for a man accused of second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Denecho King is accused of killing John Wifladt and seriously injuring Colin Digness. The attack happened in a Yellowknife apartment in December 2014.
The two men were found seriously injured in an apartment on the third floor of Sunridge Place. Wifladt later died in hospital. Digness was medevaced to Edmonton for treatment.
King was arrested and charged five months after the attack.
A preliminary inquiry, a hearing, is held to decide whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
The court has scheduled 11 days of court time for the preliminary inquiry.
King is also facing a separate charge of escaping from lawful custody. In August, he escaped from the North Slave Correctional Facility in Yellowknife and was at large for three days. He was arrested at a Sissons Court townhouse.
