Denecho King charged with murder, attempted murder in Sunridge attacks

A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the death of John Wifladt and the injury of Colin Digness last December.

RCMP have laid a murder charge in the death of John Wifladt at the Sunridge Place apartments in Yellowknife last December.

Wifladt, 39, was one of two men found seriously injured on Dec. 14 in an apartment on the third floor of Sunridge Place on 51 Avenue. He died later in hospital.

Denecho King, 22, has been arrested and charged in Wifladt's death and is facing a charge of attempted murder of Colin Digness, who was also found injured in the apartment.

Digness was medevaced to Edmonton for treatment.

Police say the determination of whether the charge against King will be first- or second-degree murder will be made in court. 

King remains in custody and will be appearing in court at a later date.
