Yukon cabinet minister Currie Dixon won't seek re-election
Community services minister 'ready to explore new opportunities', but endorses premier
Another Yukon Party cabinet minister has decided to sit out the next territorial election, later this year.
Community Services Minister Currie Dixon said Wednesday that he won't seek a second term as MLA. He's represented the Copperbelt North riding since 2011.
Last week, Education Minister Doug Graham announced he wasn't running again.
In a statement on Wednesday, Dixon said he's "ready to explore new opportunities and take a new path."
The statement also says he doesn't yet have another job, and hasn't looked for one. He'll continue to serve as MLA and in cabinet until the election.
Dixon was named minister of the environment and minister of economic development in 2011, becoming the youngest cabinet minister in Yukon history at the age of 26. He took over the community services portfolio last year.
Dixon says he'll continue to support his party as it seeks another mandate.
"Premier Pasloski and the Yukon Party are without doubt the best team to secure a prosperous future for Yukon," his statement reads.
The territorial election must be called by the fall.
