Child struck by car in Yellowknife released from hospital
'He is to stay at home for 6 weeks to recover from a trauma we will never forget,' mother says
A child who was struck by a vehicle in a school parking lot in Yellowknife is on his way home from Edmonton, where he was medevaced after the incident.
The accident happened on Thursday at Mildred Hall elementary school at about 3:30 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle told CBC she didn't see the child when she reversed her SUV and struck the boy, who was sitting on a curb.
"The car accident caused my son to suffer an injury to his liver that needed to be monitored to confirm if he required surgery," said Cassandra Beaverho, mother of the boy.
"I'm so relieved to say it is not needed."
Beaverho provided her comments to CBC on Facebook. She said her son's liver injury was the most serious of the injuries he sustained from the accident.
"He is to stay at home for six weeks to recover from a trauma we will never forget," Beaverho said.
"I also would love to say mahsi cho (thank you) to all that are praying for my boy. He is one tough cookie."
RCMP are investigating the incident.
