CBC North will host Nunavut federal candidates forum Oct. 13
Three-hour forum will be bilingual and broadcast on CBC radio
All three of Nunavut's major federal candidates will participate in CBC North's candidates forum at Iqaluit's Anglican Parish Hall, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
NDP candidate Jack Anawak, Liberal candidate Hunter Tootoo and Conservative candidate Leona Aglukkaq will answer audience questions in person, online and over the radio. The other Nunavut candidate, Spencer Rocchi of the Green party, was invited, but has not confirmed his attendance.
"It's a great opportunity for people here, in Iqaluit, who can come out to the forum and for people across the territory, who can listen to it live on the radio," says Patrick Nagle, the CBC Nunavut area manager.
"They [will] get that sense of how the candidates interact with each other and to hear answers to their questions from each of the candidates at the same time."
After opening statements and a short rebuttal, candidates will take questions from the floor and from people across the territory through social media, email and the CBC Nunavut talkback line.
"We think that people in Nunavut have a wide range of things that they're interested in hearing from their candidates about," says Nagle.
CBC North will broadcast the entire three hours live over the radio, with the first 90 minutes in Inuktitut and the second 90 minutes in English. CBC North will also have a live chat online.
Candidates can choose to speak in Inuktitut or English and there will be simultaneous translation provided at the Parish Hall.
If you have a question you'd like posed to the candidates email nunavut@cbc.ca or call the CBC Nunavut talkback line at 1-888-896-3135 or 867-979-6101 in Iqaluit.
