Body found at Lake Laberge not Jeremy Scurvey, Yukon coroner says

Yukon's coroner says the identity of a male body found last week on the shores of Lake Laberge is still unknown. Dental record comparisons have ruled out Jeremy Scurvey, who went missing in October.

The identity of a man whose body was found last week on the shore of Lake Laberge is still a mystery after dental records ruled out missing Whitehorse man Jeremy Scurvey, Yukon's coroner says.

Scurvey went missing in October. The 25-year-old Whitehorse man was last seen in the frigid Yukon River, near the city's downtown — upstream from Lake Laberge. A search last fall, mostly focused on the river, was fruitless and the family suspended their efforts in November.

Coroner Kirsten Macdonald says the comparison between Scurvey's dental records and the body found last week were "conclusively negative."

The coroner's office and the Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit are still investigating. An autopsy will be performed in Vancouver on Friday.

The coroner is asking residents in the Lake Laberge area to watch for any personal items that may be in the water or washed up on shore. Anyone finding personal items along the Yukon River or Lake Laberge is asked to contact RCMP.
