B.C. kayaker found dead in Yukon lake ID'd as Erich Korinth

Yukon's Chief Coroner has identified a man found dead in Lake Laberge last week as Erich Korinth of New Westminster, B.C.

Yukon's Chief Coroner has identified a man found dead in Lake Laberge last week as Erich Korinth of New Westminster, B.C.

Korinth, 72, was found floating near the Lake Laberge campground, about 40 kilometres north of Whitehorse.

Kirsten MacDonald says the investigation found Korinth was kayaking the Yukon River to Dawson City when he flipped over and wasn't able to save himself. She says he was experienced in using a canoe, but may have had less experience in a kayak.

Korinth was wearing a life-jacket.

The temperature of the water in Lake Laberge may have played a part in his death. Even in summer it can be in the 3C range.

MacDonald says she will release a judgment with cause of death after her investigation is complete.
