Allen Gordon wins Ivakkak dog team race

Allen Gordon and Manngi Kooktook from Kuujjuaq, Que., have finished first in the 13th annual Ivakkak dog team race.

The pair arrived at the finish line in Tasiujaq at around 2:35 p.m. ET on Tuesday. 

The 400-kilometre race began in Kangiqsujuaq on March 10.

The weather was co-operative for most of the of the race, but the 11 teams of racers had to wait out blizzard conditions in Aupaluk before setting off on the final leg to Tasiujaq.

The first place finishers receive $20,000 in prize money and gifts. The first five finishers also receive prizes. All of the racers receive gifts for participating.
