Ivakkak sled dog race mushers reach Kangirsuk

Racers in the Ivakkak dog team race in Nunavik have reached Kangirsuk, Que.

They began arriving Thursday afternoon. Allen Gordon and Johnny Kooktook of Kuujjuaq were the first to arrive in Kangirsuk.

Race organizers have decided teams will spend two days in Kangirsuk before the race resumes. The teams will head next to Aupaluk, and then on to the finish in Tasiujaq.

The race began on Monday in Kangiqsujuaq. This year's Ivakkak race will cover about 400 kilometres in Nunavik.
