'Who wouldn't write about that?' says singer/storyteller Dave Penny
Penny chronicles modern N.L. life in trad-style stories and songs on his new album, All Turned Around
Dave Penny didn't set out to chronicle modern life in traditional Newfoundland style songs and storytelling, but he writes what he knows.
"The thing is, if it's in the news, you're going to hear it anyway," said Penny.
His new album, called All Turned Around, features songs and stories about modern life in Newfoundland and Labrador, including #DarkNL, home baking — and a popular form of fundraising.
"I was in the dentist's office. I was getting my teeth cleaned," recalled Penny.
"And the hygienist was singing out to a hygienist in the hallway, 'Are you going out to Bay de Verde the weekend for the Chase the Ace?' And I thought, 'Yeah, that's an idea [for a song] right there."'
