When life gives you a spring storm, make burgers!

As the rest of Canada basks in the glow of the springtime sun, a large portion of Newfoundland is being pelted by high winds and heavy snow.

"You could call it denial, I guess," CBC reporter Mark Quinn said Wednesday, as he flipped burgers on a barbecue for an outdoor segment on CBC's News Network.

Snow in April is hardly unusual. In fact, a quick search of the CBC archives showed many videos of Aprils gone past, where snow was the big story. You can see some of those pieces in the video below.

A tribute to wild April weather

A look into the CBC archives shows that it's not THAT usual for Newfoundland and Labrador to have snowstorms in April.

Still, having schools shut down, buses pulled off city streets, and businesses close can be a bitter pill to swallow for anyone yearning to trade in snow boots for flip-flops.

The storm began on the east coast Wednesday morning and continued well into the afternoon. Parts of central Newfoundland began seeing snow during the early afternoon.

The storm made for extremely messy driving conditions, with Metrobus deciding to pull its vehicles off the roads. Several cars were victim to the conditions, and went off the road.

And if snow doesn't cut it for you, there is rain, drizzle and fog on the menu in the east and northeast on Thursday and Friday.
