The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says a cab driver was assaulted by a group of males in St. John's early Sunday morning.

Police were called to an assault in progress in the Patrick Street area around 3:30 a.m.

A taxi driver reported he picked up several young males in the Adelaide Street area, but once en route the driver realized the males didn't intend to pay the fare.

The driver asked them to get out of the cab, and that's when the men began to assault the driver.

According to police, the driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The RNC is asking anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
