Teen charged in seagull hatchet incident at Mount Pearl school

A teenager has been arrested following an animal cruelty complaint involving a seagull and a hatchet in Mount Pearl earlier this week.

Police were called to Mount Pearl Senior High about an incident on May 15.

A teenager allegedly used a hatchet to attack a seagull.

The bird was taken to a local veterinarian and had to be euthanized.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday and is facing a criminal charge of injuring or endangering animals.

The teen has been released into the custody of his parents to appear in provincial court in St. John's at a later date.
