Police ticket driver who showed 'blatant disregard for blue zones'
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have ticketed a driver for parking in a blue zone spot at the Janeway Children's Hospital in St. John's, saying the incident showed a "blatant disregard" for the accessible parking spaces.
The RNC said a father from the west coast parked his van in the blue zone Thursday and took his eight-year-old daughter, who uses a wheelchair, into the hospital for medical appointments.
Police said when the two came out from the hospital, another vehicle was parked beside their van, completely blocking wheelchair access to it.
The RNC said the father managed to get his daughter safely into the van by carrying her.
Police saw a photo of the violation on Twitter Friday morning, and quickly tracked the driver of the offending vehicle down, issuing her a ticket for her parking violation.
Police said there was no emergency or circumstance to allow for the driver's parking in the blue zone.
