A public education campaign run by a provincial organization, paired with a grant from government, is aiming to raise awareness about the rules and regulations for blue zone parking areas.

Government Services Minister David Brazil announced Friday government would be helping the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities Newfoundland and Labrador (CODNL) spread information about blue zone parking rules.
Kelly White, executive director of CODNL, says the education campaign is expected to last about a year. (CBC)

"We feel we managed to come up with something that we feel will be a real asset in educating people out there," said Brazil.

The government's grant of $26,000 will help the group spread information to people and business owners alike, ensuring all blue zone parking meets the provincial regulations.

Kelly White, executive director of CODNL, said there are still business operators who are unaware of the rules for blue zone areas.

"I do believe there is a willingness from the businesses that we have talked to. Many of them do not know that there is a proper size, there is a proper colour, there is a proper width [for parking]," said White.

CODNL will be organizing and conducting the awareness campaign, expected to run for about a year
