Newfoundland native Kaetlyn Osmond came third at the Canadian figure skating championships in Halifax Saturday, continuing her comeback after a broken leg stalled her career last year.

The 20-year-old, who is originally from Marystown, was in the lead after Friday's short program, where she scored 70.63 points and gained a standing ovation from the crowd.

Prescott Ontario's Alaine Chartrand won the finals, however, with a score of 201.99 points.

Osmond finished third with a final score of 197.87. She was 0.12 points behind the second place finisher, Gabrielle Daleman.

Osmond was sidelined all of last season, after breaking her right fibula in two places in the fall of 2014. She required two surgeries and had to virtually learn to skate again.
