Jiffy owner wants to thank Good Samaritans
The driver of a taxi that drove off Pitts Memorial Drive before landing underneath the Southlands overpass and erupting into flames was rescued by witnesses to the crash, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
The Jiffy Cab was heading west on Pitts Memorial Drive when it left the road and dropped down below the overpass at the Southlands subdivision.
Emergency crews were sent to the crash around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
The RNC said three people who witnessed the crash managed to pull the driver from the cab to safety.
Police said he was taken to hospital in St. John's with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Jiffy Cabs owner Tom Hollett, the driver will need surgery, but will be OK.
Hollett said he would like to meet and thank the people who rescued one of his drivers.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Later that night, a City Wide cab was involved in a collision on Pitts Memorial Drive, causing the vehicle to roll over onto its rood.
