No one will be left out of an annual rite of passage for high school students at Holy Heart High School, as they pull off an all-inclusive prom.

Levels one and two students at the St. John's high school were decorating the gymnasium Thursday for a graduation dinner and dance later that night.

Usually, events like prom are held at a hotel ballroom or conference room, but this year the school decided to take a different approach.
Teacher Julie Parsons says prom can generate a great deal of stress for students and their parents. (CBC)

"It's such a positive thing and, you know, taking away the stress from the students and their families is huge and not having to worry about paying for things," said teacher Julie Parsons.

Parsons said teachers heard stories of students having to skip graduation because of the high cost associated with it.

The low-cost ceremony was possible with donations, fundraising and volunteers.

"If we can continue this into the future we will, 100 per cent," Parsons said.

Holy Heart usually holds an annual prom dress drive for students unable to afford a new dress. At the affordable prom, there won't be a dress code so students will be able to wear an outfit of their choice.
