Annual prom dress drive hosted by Holy Heart students
Students from Holy Heart High School in St. John's are putting on their annual free prom dress drive on Saturday.
Maggie Hepditch, the event organizer this year, said the idea of donating gently-used prom dresses originated in a U.S. teen magazine several years ago, but became a reality in the city three years ago.
According to Hepditch, the student council at Holy Heart wanted to find a way to make grad a better experience for more students.
"Grad is expensive. Dresses cost a lot of money, and along with dresses you have your hair, your makeup, nails sometimes, shoes, jewellery, so anything that can help make grad easier for people to be a part of is something that we want to support," she said.
Hepditch said they received a lot of donations from individuals, as well as 28 dresses from The Model Shop.
Holy Heart's Prom Dress Drive is being held at the Holiday Inn on Portugal Cove Road.
Students from Holy Heart can pick up a gently-worn dress any time after 2 p.m., and students from any other school are welcome from 3-6 p.m.
