The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts are this year's Herder Memorial Trophy champions.

The team won the Central-West Senior Hockey title at home Sunday, defeating the Corner Brook Royals 3-2 in overtime.

Cam Fergus scored the winning goal in the overtime period, and was also named series MVP.

The Cataracts swept the best of seven series, with four wins and zero losses.

Tickets were sold out for the championship game at Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium.

Cataract Andre Gill, from Botwood, says taking the title on home ice was a special feeling.

"Winning at home is always nice in front of your fans. The support they give us all year and all throughout everything, fundraising and things like that, is really nice to win it," said Gill.

The Cataracts have now won back-to-back Herder trophies.

Grand Falls-Windsor will be off to the national Allan Cup tournament set for Clarenville in April.
