Herder victory delights Grand Falls-Windsor fans
Hockey fans in central Newfoundland are glowing on the heels of the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts' home-ice victory in the annual senior men's hockey championship.
The Cataracts received the Herder Memorial Trophy on Saturday night, winning the series 4-2 over the Clarenville Caribous.
Rob Hennigar scored in overtime to clinch Saturday night's win, prompting fans to flood the ice.
"It feels unbelievable," said defenceman Sammy Hounsell.
"It's great to get another win. It's a tight one. It was a great series, so we're going to enjoy this one," he said.
Fan Janice Rice was thrilled to see the Cataracts win.
"[It] couldn't be any better," Rice said. "It's the best thing ever," added her friend, Rosalyn Burton.
The Cataracts last won the Herder in 2011.
