Damhnait Doyle is quick to point out that her latest project, an album called Storm Clouds by the band The Heartbroken, is a group effort, not a Damhnait Doyle album.

"When we started this band we made a conscious decision to separate from anything I had done before," said Doyle.

"[We're] starting from scratch."

Doyle met her current bandmates, Peter Fusco, Blake Manning and Stuart Cameron when they were touring as backing musicians for Doyle's former band, Shaye, with Kim Stockwood and Tara MacLean.

"We would be the last ones up at night, and we'd be sitting around, having a glass of wine and singing songs," said Doyle.

"And we just wrote a song one day."
