Emma Peckford recording song in Los Angeles after She's the One win
The winner of a $50,000 national talent contest has been in Los Angeles this week, recording a song and working on a music video.
Emma Peckford, who is from Corner Brook, won She's the One in July.
To get to do something of such a huge calibre is so surreal that I think it doesn't even feel like it's happening. It's only recently, the last few days, that this is real.- Emma Peckford
Peckford, 16, described the whole experience as "surreal," and said it's a huge boost to a young musician's career.
She told CBC News that although she's been singing for years, she's only been performing in public for a short time.
"I'm pretty new to the whole performing thing ... it's only been about two-and-a-half years that I've been out publicly doing this, and that was only my second competition ever," said Peckford.
"I've been pretty much floating my way up to now ... it doesn't seem real at all."
She said it was looking to be a busy week to get everything completed, work that Peckford was excited to start last Monday.
Peckford has been working with Los Angeles-based music producer Barrett Yeretsian in the Sunset Sound Recording Studio — the same studio where Christina Perri recorded her 2010 debut hit single, Jar of Hearts.
"To get to do something of such a huge calibre is so surreal that I think it doesn't even feel like it's happening. It's only recently, the last few days, that this is real," said Peckford.
Emma's dad, Dean Peckford, told CBC that a photo shoot took place on Thursday; and a video for her single was slated to be shot on location in the Santa Monica area on Friday.
