A St. John's judge will decide next month whether there's enough evidence to send a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer to trial for sexual assault.

Const. Douglas Snelgrove, 38, who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman while he was on duty, appeared in provincial court Monday for his preliminary inquiry.

The 10-year veteran of the RNC was charged in July with sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman. The offence is alleged to have occurred on Dec. 21, 2014.

The Ontario Provincial Police were called in by the RNC after the force received a complaint from the public on April 14.

All the evidence for the case was called by Monday, and Judge James Walsh said he will deliver his decision on Feb. 23.
