On Monday, Andy Pyne joined CBC Radio's St. John's Morning Show to eat from a special edition box of Cocoa Frosted Flakes emblazoned with the face of then rookie of the year Vince Carter, which Pyne had been saving until his beloved Raptors made franchise history.
Pyne followed through on a bet and ate the cereal after his beloved Raptors advanced to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. Since then, he's been something of a celebrity.
"Twitter just went crazy and then it got picked up by lots of other sports outlets across all of North America," Pyne said.
"Then the other day I got a message from a PR company, a PR company that wanted to send me a package."
Pyne isn't sure what the package will contain, but he said since the whole thing was so unexpected, he'll be happy with whatever he receives.
"It's been a great run. It's like my Octomom moment," he said, referring to Nadya Suleman, who became a media sensation after she delivered octuplets in 2009.
Cereal giant Kellogg's also caught wind of the story, with staff even watching the video in the company's head offices. Pyne is hoping that he'll be able to parlay his newfound fame into something else.
"Drake is the Raptors' global ambassador — I was just wondering what the term limit is for the global ambassador, and maybe the fine people at Kellogg's could back me if I wanted to make a run at that," he joked.
Meanwhile, Pyne said he feels just fine after eating the 17-year-old cereal — even though he likely doesn't feel as fine after the Raptors game two loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.
