Véronique Hivon lays out plan to unite sovereigntist forces
Province-wide tour planned for 2017 at 'the heart of my approach,' PQ leadership candidate says
Parti Québécois leadership candidate Véronique Hivon says she will assemble a coalition of sovereigntist forces as part of a new plan to reboot the independence movement.
Hivon laid out details of a three-step plan on Friday, saying she would first prepare the province for sovereignty by conducting new studies, then present the plan to Quebecers and finally work to assemble a coalition of sovereigntists.
At a news conference, she stressed her political approach would welcome all Quebecers, including new immigrants, First Nations and anglophones, even if they aren't in favour of independence.
"We need to respect our diversity," she said. "It's our strength."

Her plan did not, however, include details on when she would hold a referendum if elected.
Hivon is one of three people to enter the race to replace Pierre Karl Péladeau as PQ chief. MNAs Alexandre Cloutier and Jean-François Lisée are also in the running.
