Sabrine Djermane and El Mahdi Jamali due in court Monday
Teens each face four charges related to terrorism
Two Montreal teenagers facing terrorism-related charges are due back in court on Monday.
El Mahdi Jamali, 18, and Sabrine Djermane, 19, are each facing four charges — attempting to leave Canada to commit a terror act abroad, possession of an explosive substance, facilitating a terrorist act, and committing an act under the direction or for the profit of a terrorist organization.
The two, both students at Collège de Maisonneuve — a Montreal junior college — were arrested in April. At that time, they were not charged with any crime, and their arrests were described by the Crown as a "preventive measure.'' Prosecutors wanted them to sign peace bonds that would set out conditions and restrictions on their day-to-day lives.
They were charged five days later.
If the pair, who are romantically linked, are found guilty, they face the possibility of life in prison.
They are currently in jail awaiting trial.
On June 16, Jamali and Djermane were denied bail at the Montreal courthouse by Judge Robert Sansfaçon.
There is a publication ban on the evidence presented in court.
