Quebec's provincial police are hoping roads prove less deadly during this year's construction holiday than they have been in the past.

Last year, 21 people were killed on Quebec roads during the construction holiday.

In 2015, there were also a record number of motorcyclists killed on Quebec roads.

The upcoming construction holiday runs from July 24 to Aug. 6.

The Sûreté du Québec stated that about one quarter of Quebecers are on holiday during this time, increasing the strain on the province's road network.

The SQ urges Quebecers to plan their drive in advance and remain alert behind the wheel.

The SQ added that while the majority of construction workers are on holiday until August, about 20 per cent are still working, so drivers need to pay particular attention to speed limits in construction zones to ensure their safety.
