One of the two women who was struck by a cube truck this afternoon in Mile End has died.

Witnesses who spoke to CBC News say that at around 2:10 p.m., they heard tires screeching and came out of a shop to see two women lying in the middle of the street, covered in blood.

Police say the women, aged 63 and 66, were struck by a truck heading northbound on Parc Avenue at the intersection of Bernard Street.

The 66-year-old woman died in hospital, police say.

One witness told CBC the women had been jaywalking when they were hit.

A video obtained by CBC shows a bystander rushing towards one of the women lying on the ground then performing CPR on her.

The 64-year-old driver of the truck was treated for shock. Police will meet with him later today.

Police are at the scene speaking to other witnesses, taking photos of the truck and collecting other evidence.

Parc Avenue is closed in both directions between St-Viateur Street and Van Horne Avenue.

This stretch of Parc Avenue has been a hotspot for pedestrian injuries, according to a study by the public health agency for the region of Montreal, which looked at pedestrians hurt in traffic accidents between 2003 and 2012.
