Montreal finally gets a baseball team, but not the Expos
Brewers relocate to island from North Shore suburb of Ste. Thérèse
The city of Montreal will be home to a new baseball team, but no, it's not the Expos.
The Brewers de Ste. Thérèse will be moving to the island.
The Brewers are one of the nine teams in the Quebec Major Baseball League (Ligue de baseball majeur du Québec), which was founded in 2002.
This isn't the first time Montreal has had a team in the Quebec league. A Montreal team, L'action de Montreal, won a league title in 2003.
There was also a team called the Orioles, in Ahunstic. They played there for two years before moving to Shawinigan in 2014.
The Brewers' home diamond will be at Clémentine-de-la-Rousselière park in the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies—Pointe-aux-Trembles.
Players will be on the diamond beginning next month.
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, who has been an outspoken proponent of bringing the Expos back to the city, was on hand for the announcement.
"We have to send a strong message that this is a place that can welcome a team," he said at a news conference on Monday.
