Botched work at Berri-UQAM station
Tiles installed earlier this year not up to par, STM to make 'necessary adjustments'
There are problems with some tile work at the Berri-UQAM Metro station.
Five years after the original tiling was removed from some of the walls, new sheets were installed in January and February.
But the work has been botched in some areas — to the point that it needs to be redone, according to Radio-Canada. Some STM users interviewed by Radio-Canada said the new tiles seemed "cheap."
The tile work was completed by Construction Demathieu & Bard as part of a $24-million contract awarded last year for work that also included plumbing and ventilation upgrades.
The construction company, which declined to comment, will cover the cost of the replacement work.
The STM is taking steps to address the issue, said spokesperson Amélie Régis.
"We are aware of the problem and have demanded the business to make the necessary adjustments," Régis said.
Not quite as bad as watching paint dry. Here's a video of some poorly installed tiles in the Berri-UQAM Metro pic.twitter.com/5dTTOHgBlK
