Montreal's public transit authority is gearing up to begin major repairs to the Berri-UQAM Metro station's green line platform, which the Société de Transports (STM) says will take six months to complete and will affect metro users. 

CBC Montreal reporter Sarah Leavitt joined other journalists at the Berri-UQAM station for a media tour of the continuing work.

The Berri-UQAM station is the busiest in the Montreal Metro system with 12.9 million users per year.

The STM says the work underway at the Berri-UQAM station will enter an important phase next week when the escalators on the green line's Angrignon platform will be reconfigured.

Work at thBerri-UQAM Metro station began in 2010 and is expected ot be completed in 2017. 

Passersby also caught a glimpse of the new AZUR train as it went by for a test drive.

The STM estimates the cost of seven-year project at $87 million.
