Winnipeg woman's death deemed a homicide
Winnipeg police say the death of Simone Sanderson, whose body was found in the city's North End over the weekend, was a homicide.
The 23-year-old woman's body was found behind a building near Burrows Avenue and Main Street on Sunday afternoon.
Police confirmed on Wednesday that they are treating Sanderson's death as a homicide, but a spokesperson said they do not have anyone in custody at this time.
The victim's grandmother, Betty-Ann Sanderson, said she had a bad feeling when she saw the scene. The body was covered with leaves and cardboard. "I knew she was murdered. I know it in my heart because of the way I saw it yesterday at the scene and the way it was marked."
Sanderson had been reported missing last week, as she was last seen on Aug. 26.
Police did not say how Sanderson died or for how long her body may have been in the area.
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call investigators at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers.
