Death of woman found badly injured near Portage Place being investigated as homicide

The death of a 28-year-old woman, who was found with life-threatening injuries in downtown Winnipeg on Thursday afternoon and later died in hospital, is being investigated as a homicide.

The death of a 28-year-old Winnipeg  woman, who was found with life-threatening injuries in the city's downtown on Thursday afternoon and later died, is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 100 block of The Promenade — the thoroughfare just north of Portage Place mall — shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday with a report of an unresponsive woman.

They found her suffering from life-threatening injuries and provided medical treatment. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead there, police said in a Saturday news release.

She has been identified as Briannah Clowes, 28. Her family has been notified, police said.

They have not arrested anyone in connection with her death so far, and the homicide unit continues to investigate. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the unit at 204-986-6508, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
