Winnipeg police are investigating what they call a "serious assault" on Corydon Avenue involving two victims.

At about 1 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a report of a stabbing that occurred in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue.

Two men had been stabbed and were taken to hospital in critical condition. They have since been upgraded to stable, police say.

In the hours following the incident there were blood stains on the ground outside, and police had a number of businesses taped off on the north side of the sidewalk near Cockburn Street.

Police say they are still looking for information from witnesses.

In a separate incident near the 700 block of Corydon Avenue, police say a man was injured early Saturday morning.

The man refused to cooperate with officers and denied he was stabbed, police say. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Officers say the two incidents do not appear to be related.
