The 27-year-old man died shortly after officers were called about a person lying in the front yard of a home in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue, near McKenzie Street.

Police arrived just after 6 p.m. and found Sumner on the sidewalk. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

The cause of his death has not yet been released and no arrests have been made.

Lisamarie DeLaronde, who lives in the area, said she was at home watching TV when she heard arguing in the street. She thought nothing of it at first, but when police arrived, she went outside to see what was happening.

DeLaronde said she called her son and the pair of them walked to the scene where she saw emergency crews working to resuscitate a man.

"Emotion took over me. I started to panic, I started to feel hurt for the family," she said.

DeLaronde said her heart goes out to the deceased's loved ones.

"I can't begin to only imagine the hurt that family's going to go through. I just don't know what else to say," she said. "I just know that it's going to be a long progress for the family."
