Winnipeg police ID victim in Dugas Street homicide

Winnipeg police have identified a man who died in hospital after being found seriously injured early Friday morning.

Byron Frederick Moose, 50, was a member of South Indian Lake/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation in northern Manitoba

Winnipeg police have identified a man who died in hospital after being found seriously injured early Friday morning.

Byron Frederick Moose, 50, who police say was a member of the South Indian Lake community/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation in northern Manitoba, was found with injuries consistent with being assaulted on Dugas Street in the city's Maginot area.

Officers were notified of the incident around 4:36 a.m. Friday by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, which was giving the man emergency medical care, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a Monday news release.

Moose was taken to hospital in critical condition. He later died of his injuries. 

The victim's family has been notified of his death, police said. The investigation continues.
