Inmate, 54, dies at Stony Mountain Institution

An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg has died.

Michael McKay had been serving time at the prison since December 2020

An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution north of Winnipeg has died.

Michael McKay, 54, died Monday, the  Correctional Service of Canada said in a news release on Wednesday. 

McKay had been serving a sentence of six years, one month and 11 days since Dec. 10, 2020. The release did not say what he had been convicted of or how he died.

McKay's next-of-kin have been notified.

The CSC says it will review the circumstances and have notified police and coroner as per policy.
