A 27-year-old man shot and killed in Winnipeg's North End on Friday has been identified as Trevor Bodnarek.

The man, who also went by the last name Desjarlais, was killed around 10 p.m. Friday at the front door of a row house at Selkirk Avenue and Parr Street.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Police spokesman Const. Rob Carver said there were other people in the residence at the time but none of them were injured.

"We have an individual at a residence, shot at his front door. That's got to be terrifying," he said. "A horrific incident, for sure."

Carver said the killing does not appear to have been random but he couldn't provide any information about why police believe that.

He did say Bodnarek is known to police, who are investigating the possibility of gang involvement in his death — the 17th homicide of the year for Winnipeg.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
