A tire-deflation device and the Canine Unit were used to catch a 30-year-old man during a police pursuit in Brandon early Sunday morning.

Police were trying to stop a vehicle around 4:15 a.m. in the 2600 block of Princess Ave. when the vehicle took off.

The vehicle sped up to about 80 km/h as it was pursued cruisers across many streets in the city, police said.

Police ended up using a stop stick, which is a tire-deflation device, to sop the vehicle. But then the driver took off on foot.

The Canine Unit eventually caught up with him on the 200 block of 24th St.

The man was charged with fleeing from police and dangerous driving and was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
