Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of an Ontario man who police said was abducted in Winnipeg last week.
Officers responded to reports of a missing adult on Bridge Lake Drive near Sablewood Road last Tuesday, police said in a news release Monday.
Police determined 22-year-old Zeyad Shammo had been abducted in Winnipeg a day before he was reported missing.
Officers from Winnipeg's major crimes unit assumed the investigation, and in the early morning hours of Friday they located Shammo's body in a residence on Bristol Avenue, near St. Luc Street.
Police said Shammo's family has been notified of his death.
Shammo's death is now being investigated as a homicide. Police said two people who were known to the victim have since been arrested.
Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski, both 26-year-old from Winnipeg, have been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion.
Chaykowski is also facing four counts for failing to comply with a release order.
