Man shot in Winnipeg's Little Italy area on Wednesday night

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was shot near Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street in Winnipeg on Wednesday night.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was shot near Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street in Winnipeg on Wednesday night.

Winnipeg police received calls reporting the sounds of gunfire in the area of Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street on Wednesday around 9:30 p.m.

A man who had been shot was found by officers nearby on McMillan Avenue. He was given emergency medical care before being taken to hospital in critical condition, police said.

The man's condition has since been upgraded to stable.

There were at least 12 police vehicles on Little Italy streets after the shooting.

Police taped off two houses in the neighbourhood around Arbuthnot and McMillan and interviewed several people in the neighbourhood.

A gun was found in the area and the incident doesn't appear to be a random, police said.

Winnipeg police's major crimes unit continues to investigate.
