Hunt on for suspect in police-involved shooting
A suspected member of the Rock Machine biker gang is being sought in connection to a police-involved shooting in Winnipeg on Tuesday.
The manhunt began at about 3:30 p.m. when an officer fired his weapon while responding to a domestic dispute behind a home on Atlantic Avenue near Sinclair Street.
Area residents told CBC News they heard up to four shots but police spokeswoman Const. Natalie Aitken could only confirm an officer fired at least one shot into the rear of a home in the 700 block of Atlantic.
Police have not said what prompted the confrontation but there were no reports of injuries.
"They attended and it was very quickly that this incident occurred. So, what happened just prior to the firearm discharge and subsequently what happened after is certainly going to be part of this investigation," Aitken said.
The suspect took off in a pickup truck and hit cruiser cars and possibly other vehicles on his way, she noted.
The truck was later found abandoned on Mandalay Bay in the Maples neighbourhood. It had a bullet hole in it and the passenger-side window had been smashed out. It's still unclear how the truck was damaged.
