Police shoot at domestic disturbance suspect
Truck found but man remains at large
A manhunt is underway for a suspect in a domestic dispute that resulted in a Winnipeg police officer firing his service weapon.
Police said an officer fired at least one shot into the rear of a home in the 700 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. CT after they were called to the scene.
Officers found a man who was wanted on a court order breach, Const. Natalie Aitken said.
The suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck that was found abandoned on Mandalay Bay in the Maples neighbourhood. The passenger-side window of the vehicle had been smashed out.
Aitken said events unfolded quickly and an officer fired his gun, but couldn’t say what prompted the confrontation. There have been no reports of injuries, Aitken said.
The suspect was still being sought at 8 p.m. CT. Police could not say whether he was armed nor did they provide a description of him.
Police blocked roads around the Atlantic Avenue crime scene for many hours as they investigated.
No other information was immediately available, Aitken said.
